The difference

Two conversations most firms combine. We don't.

“Tax planning” and “tax strategy” get used interchangeably — but they solve different problems. We treat them as two distinct services because conflating them is how owners miss both.

Tax Planning

Managing what you owe, before it's due.

Quarterly estimated tax calculations, safe-harbor tracking, withholding adjustments, and cash flow planning so a tax bill never surprises you. This is the discipline of staying current — no penalties, no scrambling in April.

  • Quarterly estimated tax liability projections
  • Safe harbor and underpayment penalty avoidance
  • Real-time adjustments as income changes
  • Cash reserve planning for tax due dates

Tax Strategy

Finding the opportunities that lower what you owe.

This is where we go looking for the moves — the ones most preparers never bring up because it isn't their job to. Structure, investment vehicles, and account types that legally and permanently reduce your tax liability over time.

  • Retirement accounts — Solo 401(k), SEP IRA, defined benefit plans sized to shelter income at the highest bracket
  • HSAs — the only triple-tax-advantaged account available; contribution strategy for owners who qualify
  • Real estate — cost segregation studies, bonus depreciation, and short-term rental loopholes for owners investing in property
  • Entity & income structuring — S-corp elections, income splitting, and timing income/deductions across tax years
  • Augusta Rule — renting your own home to your business tax-free up to 14 days a year
  • Hiring your children — shifting income to family members in lower brackets, legally, with proper documentation
  • Qualified Opportunity Zone investments — deferring and reducing capital gains through OZ funds
  • Charitable strategies — donor-advised funds and appreciated asset donations for owners who give

“Tax planning keeps you compliant today. Tax strategy builds the position that lowers what you owe for years to come.”

Packaging

Priced as a package, not by the hour

Most clients work with us on a flat monthly fee covering bookkeeping, payroll, filings, and planning check-ins. You know the cost before the work starts, and there is no meter running when you call with a question.

A note on what we don't do

We don't offer human resources services. When an HR question comes up, we'll tell you plainly that it's outside our scope and point you toward someone who handles it properly.
